Another Night of Terror for Kyiv: Civilians, Homes, and Infrastructure Hit in Massive Russian Attack
Published: May 26, 2026 Reading time: 1 minute Share: Share an articleOn the night of May 24, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack against Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine, causing significant destruction across the capital. Residential buildings, cultural institutions, and public infrastructure were damaged, while civilians across the city spent hours sheltering from explosions and air raid sirens.

The attack also affected the Kyiv office of People in Need Ukraine in the Podil district, where the team continues its work supporting people affected by the war.
For many members of our team, however, the attack became another deeply personal experience in more than four years of full-scale war.
“After the attack, many of our colleagues were sharing difficult personal stories — about damaged homes, sleepless nights, frightened children, and the emotional exhaustion that comes with living under constant attacks,” said Anna Duda, Country Director of People in Need Ukraine. “Despite this, the next morning our teams returned to work because millions of people across Ukraine continue to need support. This resilience is something we witness every single day among Ukrainians.”
Across the country, communities continue to endure repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure and daily threats to their safety.
Yet emergency services, teachers, doctors, humanitarian workers, local volunteers, and ordinary families continue work and moving forward despite the pressure and uncertainty.
People in Need remains committed to standing with people in Ukraine and continuing to provide assistance to communities affected by the war.
