Dominik Hašek’s Visit to the Veterans’ Forum

Recovery” brought together those who are shaping Ukraine’s future: veterans, entrepreneurs, mentors, local authorities, and international partners.

Among the guests was a long-standing friend of Ukraine — Dominik Hašek, legendary Czech athlete and supporter of People in Need.
Throughout the day, Dominik Hašek met with veterans whose businesses were developed through the “Courage to Business” program, co-implemented by People in Need and the Lviv City Council. He spoke with participants about their experiences on the front line, their motivation to rebuild their communities, and the challenges of starting a business during wartime.
Dominik personally visited the veteran business fair, where he learned about enterprises created with the support of the Czech people. From rehabilitation services and crafts to small manufacturing and family businesses — each initiative reflects resilience, talent, and determination.
“Over the course of the year we supported 100 veterans and their family members with grants to start or develop their own businesses. This was our first programme in Ukraine focused on supporting veterans in creating their own businesses, and it has already become a model for further initiatives in other regions. For us, this programme is not only about funding. It is based on a comprehensive approach that combines psychological support, professional training, mentoring, and grant assistance,” said Anna Duda, Country Director of People in Need in Ukraine, in her welcoming remarks.
Dominik Hašek joined panel discussions, listened to expert insights, and engaged with speakers and partners working to improve services for veterans and their families. His presence sent a strong message: Ukraine’s veterans are not alone — international solidarity is real, and it continues.
“In my life, I’ve played many matches. But today, there are people among us who are fighting what may be the hardest one — returning to life after war. Ukrainian veterans need a new chance. Through a real gift — a People in Need project — they can access retraining, psychological support, or a grant to start their own business. This is a path to finding themselves again, rebuilding their livelihoods, and shaping their future. And we can help them take this step,” said Dominik Hašek.
For People in Need, Dominik Hašek’s visit is more than symbolic. It is about standing alongside veterans, amplifying their stories, and strengthening the partnership between Czech supporters and the people of Ukraine. His support helps highlight the importance of integrated assistance: psychosocial care, business training, financial grants, and long-term cooperation with local authorities.
The forum concluded with meaningful conversations, new connections, and recognition of the veterans whose courage drives Ukraine’s recovery. And throughout the day, Dominik Hašek was there — listening, encouraging, and standing in solidarity with those who defended Ukraine.
