Emergency Response: People in Need Ukraine Supports Communities After Devastating Attacks
Published: Mar 30, 2025 Reading time: 2 minutes Share: Share an articleIn recent weeks, Ukrainian cities such as Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv have faced intensified attacks, resulting in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction. These assaults have targeted residential areas, leading to the loss of innocent lives and the devastation of homes and infrastructure.
Dnipro has been particularly affected. A recent massive drone attack destroyed residential buildings, killing at least four people and injuring many others. Similarly, Kharkiv and Odesa have experienced relentless bombardments, causing casualties and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. These attacks have left thousands with damaged homes and in urgent need of assistance.

People in Need Ukraine’s Rapid Response
In the aftermath of the recent attacks on Dnipro, our team acted swiftly to provide critical emergency aid to affected residents. Recognizing the urgent need for rehabilitation, the organization delivered a substantial shipment of construction materials to facilitate the rapid repair of damaged homes. These supplies included slating, nails, wooden sheets, tape, and other essential items, focusing on restoring roofs and windows—the most severely impacted parts of the buildings.
Accounts from Affected Residents
The impact of these attacks is deeply personal for many residents. Hana, who lives in Dnipro with her husband Pavlo, and whose house sustained damage, shared her experience:
“I’m saying that today is a good day in any case because we remained alive.”
The family considers themselves fortunate to have survived the recent drone attack with only damage to their home. Tragically, their neighbors were not as lucky, as the assault claimed several lives.
Sofia, another resident whose house sustained damage to the roof, ceiling, and windows, recounted:
“The ceiling collapsed after the police had been there—registering the damage. We had already cleaned everything up to go rest, but got held up in the kitchen, and then it all fell down. The roof also sagged. Good thing we weren’t here when it happened.”
Coordinated Distribution Efforts
To ensure efficient and timely distribution, the delivered materials were provided to the communal enterprise of the Dnipro City Council. This collaboration aims to guarantee that aid reaches those in dire need without delay, enabling residents to begin the process of rebuilding their homes and lives.
Standing in Solidarity with Ukrainian Communities
People in Need remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Ukrainian communities during these challenging times. The organization stands in solidarity with the people of Dnipro and other affected cities, offering immediate relief to those who have lost their homes and loved ones. The thoughts of the entire team are with the families mourning their losses and those recovering from injuries.
This emergency response has been made possible through the generous support of the American people through USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) and the dedicated efforts of the team on the ground. However, the need for assistance remains urgent.
Together, we can make a difference—one step at a time.
