Period of implementation: from September 2024 till November 2025. Geographical area: Lviv Oblast (Lviv city Hromada). The Project is implemented with the financial support of the Czech people and in close cooperation with the Lviv City Council. The project has two main focuses: economic empowerment, recovery, and social and mental health recovery to support psychological resilience and mental wellbeing of the conflict affected communities in Ukraine. The program’s budget is estimated between 700,000 to 800,000 euro.
Directions of the Project:
1. Economic empowerment, recovery
- Provision of small business grants (up to 5000 USD)
- Provision of resilience grants (up to 4000 USD)
- Provision of financial literacy, business training and soft skills training
2. Social and mental health recovery
- Needs assessment among veterans selected for the activity (all selected for training);
- Mapping of the MHPSS and social protection services in Lviv and referral mechanisms rollout;
- Identification of specific needs of veterans and their family members based on the assessment;
- Based on the assessment, PIN will address the MHPSS requests that are on 2nd and 3rd level of IASC MHPSS Pyramid, which will include individual and group sessions and support circles with the average number of 10 sessions per each beneficiary;
- For those requests that go under the 4th level, PIN will either activate referral mechanism or involve local partners, such as UCARE, who have specialised psychotherapists (working in EMDR and other evidence-based approaches);
- MHPSS intervention will offer tailored support based on needs, but will focus on preparation for adaptation to civilian life, dealing with PTSD, anxiety etc.;
- Conducting soft skills trainings for grantees through PIN psychologists and external experts
- Referral to PIN 24/7 hotline.
On 1st of August 2024 People in Need signed a Memorandum of understanding regarding implementation of this Project with the Department of Economic Development of the Lviv City Council. The program is aimed at creating conditions and providing support to veterans and their families in their efforts to start, restore or develop their own business through a comprehensive approach that includes a ten-day business training course, consultations and mentoring, as well as creating equal conditions for the Program’s participants to receive grant support from People in Need and the Lviv City Council. Under the Project the parties will organize 8 training courses for 20 participants in each course, which will result in 4 grant competitions. The Parties will provide joint grant support to 100 winners of the grant competitions in the amount of up to UAH 300,000 each (UAH 100,000 will be provided by the Lviv City Council). The program is expected to begin on 1 September 2024 and last between one and two years from the day of signing the Memorandum.
The grants can be used to:
- Purchase equipment, raw materials and components;
- Purchase, rental or repair of real estate and specialized vehicles necessary for implementation of the business project;
- Purchase of licensed software;
- Payment for specialized professional business training.
Mentorship and Consultations:
- Practical advice and consultations from experienced entrepreneurs and experts in various business fields;
- Consultations on business registration, obtaining permits, and contract conclusion;
- Consultations on selecting grant programs to support business;
- Consultations on writing grant applications and reviewing them before submission;
- Networking with the courses’ participants – potential partners;
- Organizing excursions to leading companies in the city that have experience; attracting grant funds for experience exchange.
